“Anchors in the Storm” by Sarah Sundin

“Anchors in the Storm” is the second book in Sarah Sundin’s Waves of Freedom series. The series focuses at this point on the home front during the beginning of the United States’ involvement in World War II.  The first book dealt with sabotage in the shipyards in Boston.  This second book in the series focuses on the time after December 7, 1941 when the Americans are drawn into the war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  We are introduced to another Avery sibling, Lillian, as she comes to Boston to work as a pharmacist.  Her brother’s best friend, Arch is deployed on the Ettinger, a destroyer hunting for German U-boats in the waters of the east coast.  There is a suspicion on Lillian’s part that there might be a drug ring operating among the crew of the ship.  Arch and Lillian come together to try to thwart the drug trafficking that could cause chaos and dereliction of duty among the sailors on the Ettinger and other US ships.

I loved this novel.  I am such a fan of anything pertaining to World War II and I have found a wonderful author who writes about this time in history with knowledge and sensitivity.  I highly recommend all of Ms. Sundin’s books and look forward to reading the next one.

I received a print copy of this book from LitFuse Publicity and Revell in return for my honest review.

Sarah Sundin’s All Hands on Deck Giveaway:

In a time of sacrifice, what price can one put on true love? Pharmacist Lillian Avery and Ensign Archer Vandenberg are about to find out in Sarah Sundin’s new book, Anchor in the Storm. During the darkest days of the war, Arch’s destroyer hunts German U-boats in vain as the submarines sink dozens of merchant ships along the East Coast. Still shaken by battles at sea, Arch notices his men also struggle with their nerves—and with drowsiness. Could there be a link to the large prescriptions Lillian has been filling? As the danger rises on both land and sea, the two must work together to answer that question. But can Arch ever earn Lillian’s trust and affection?
