“The Invisibles – The Untold Story of African American Slaves in the White House” by Jesse J. Holland

I downloaded a Kindle copy of “The Invisibles – The Untold Story of African American Slaves in the White House” by Jesse J. Holland.  The author conducted extensive research into the first American presidents’ lives while they lived in the various presidential abodes at the beginning of our country.  Twelve of the first eighteen presidents owned slaves at one time or another in their lives.  This book tells of those slaves who were kept in the presidents’ households, the ones who managed to escape to freedom.  The author also gives a history of the beginning of slavery in the colonies.  This book was very interesting, although a bit dry to read.  I am more of a fiction reader and thus was not totally involved in this novel.  However, the subject matter is quite interesting and also gives an idea of the role that slavery had in the beginning of our nation.

I received a Kindle copy of this book from NetGalley.com in return for my honest review.
