“Nora Bonesteel’s Christmas Past” by Sharyn McCrumb

“Nora Bonesteel’s Christmas Past” by Sharyn McCrumb is a ballad novella.  I read it in one evening because it was so easy to read and because it wasn’t a lengthy book.

There are two stories continuing simultaneously in this book, both taking place on Christmas Eve in the Appalachian hills.  Two lawmen are reluctantly heading out to take an old man into custody for a hit and run.  They get into more than they bargained for before they get their man.

Nora Bonesteel has the gift of sight.   She can see more than the average person.  Her neighbors have invited her over because they suspect that the rambling old house they’ve bought is haunted.  They want Nora to rid them of the spectre.

While I enjoyed this book, I couldn’t help but wish there were more to it.  It is a delightful read for a cold evening on the couch, but I was left wanting more from each story.   This book would make a very nice gift for a notorious reader.

I was sent a free print copy by Abingdon Press in return for my honest review.
