“Caroline’s Secret” by Amy Lillard is a good story about a Swartzentruber Amish woman from Tennessee who harbors a secret. She has left her family and come to Wells Landing, Oklahoma where she is thought to be a young Amish widow with a delightful little girl. Emma takes her in to work at her bakery and gives her a room to live in. Caroline is becoming very happy in her new surroundings. There is a Beachy Amish community near the town and Caroline has become part of it. She has two friends and they meet for lunch in the park every afternoon.
Andrew Fitch has come from Missouri to help his Uncle Abe, a cabinet maker, who is a little eccentric, but whose furniture is much sought after. Andrew is trying to overcome the loss of his Beth and is not looking to be involved with anyone. However he can’t help but be smitten with Caroline and loves her little girl. The course of true love never runs smoothly though and Caroline’s past comes to haunt her.
Ms. Lillard has written a very warm and comfortable novel. It is easy to read and keeps one interested throughout. I enjoyed this novel for the heartwarming story it tells. I would recommend this book.
