“Christmas in July” by Debbie Mason

I really enjoyed the book “Christmas in July” by Debbie Mason.  It is the story of a soldier who is MIA in Afghanistan and the wife and baby he left behind.  Jack Flaherty has been missing for almost 18 months and his wife Grace has just about given up hope that he is alive.  However, the town of Christmas, Colorado and its citizens have not given him up and have decided to celebrate Jack’s birthday.  Grace is a baker and has baked the cake for his celebration even though she has decided that she has to let go and get on with her life.  Jack’s sister and others in the town are very disgusted that she has decided to do this and take every opportunity to let her know it.

Then just when she has decided to move on, Jack is found and comes home.  The only trouble is that he has lost his short term memory and has no recollection of Grace or Little Jack.  He is even involved with a fellow MIA, a beautiful photographer, who was taken prisoner at the same time he was.  The complications and situations that follow make this novel one which is representative of similar situations that are occurring in our country now.

I enjoyed reading Grace and Jack’s story and also enjoyed the involvement of the whole town in their lives.  Everyone is trying to make sure that they are ok.  I was sent a free print copy of this book in return for my honest review.
