“How To Lose a Bride In One Night” by Sophie Jordan

“How To Lose a Bride In One Night” by Sophie Jordan was a fairly good book.   It is a Regency novel set in England of course.  The “bride” Annalise Hadley has married a man that her estranged father picked for his title and fortune.  However, on their wedding night, her new groom tries to kill her by smothering her and then throws her over the side of the wedding barge.

Owen, the Earl of McDowell, a soldier returned from war, finds her in the river.  She is very ill.  He finds a Gypsy band that takes her in and nurses her back to health.  Owen stays with her and when she is well takes her to his home.  She pretends amnesia so that she doesn’t have to tell him about her “marriage”.   The rest of the story tells how Annalise and Owen fight their attraction for one another.  He, because of his past tries not to care for her; and she, because of her past and her marriage tries not to care for him.  I think you will enjoy this book.

I was sent this Kindle book from the publisher, Avon, and from Night Owl Reviews for my honest review.
