“Hidden Mercies” by Serena B. Miller

I have just finished reading “Hidden Mercies” by Serena B. Miller.  The story is a very believable one where Claire was supposed to marry Matthew Troyer.  She and her Amish community are waiting for Matthew to come to his own wedding.  They soon find out that Matthew has been killed in an accident.  Claire is heartbroken at this turn of events.  She finally marries another Amish man, Abraham Shetler and they have children, but she has a son of her own by Matthew.  She is making a living as a midwife after she and her husband were shot by an intruder.  Abraham dies, but she recovers and delivers the son she was carrying when she was shot.

Tobias Troyer is Matthew’s brother.  His father was so angry at him because he thought he caused the accident that took Matthew’s life.  Tobias leaves the community and joins the service where he sees action in Afghanistan and is wounded.  He returns to Mt. Hope to recover and also to see his father.  He has changed his name and his injuries have made him unrecognizable.  He befriends Claire and her children and tries to help her out at times.

There is a lot more going on in this story than I want to tell you because I want you to read it for yourself.  I really loved this story.  I would very much like to read more books by Serena Miller.  This book was published by Howard Books, a division of Simon and Schuster, Inc.

I received a free print copy of this book in return for my honest review of the novel.
