“A Cowboy at Heart” by Lori Copeland and Virginia Smith

“A Cowboy at Heart” is a novel by Lori Copeland and Virginia Smith.  It is part of The Amish of Apple Grove books.  I really liked this book and will be looking for the other novels in this series.  The novel takes place in Kansas when the land was there for the taking by homesteaders and ranchers.  Of course some of those people were greedy and mean and the Amish gentlefolk had to deal with that.

Jesse Montgomery is a cowboy who is friends with some of the Amish settlers.  He has overcome a few bad choices and a drinking problem to become a man who wants to settle down and have a family.  Katie Miller is a widow who is also very adept at nursing and midwifing.  Jesse needs her skills when he is shot in the back by the unscrupulous rancher who is out to take over the homesteaders’ property.

I enjoyed reading this novel and finding out how the Amish were able to deal with the threats and violence without losing their gentle ways.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book for my honest review from the publisher.  The opinions expressed here are my own.
